Stephen Formosa

Stephen Formosa started practicing Taekwondo at the age of 15 years of age. He was a quick learner due to his innate talent and predisposition for the martial art and achieved 1st Dan black belt in 1996. After the establishment of the Malta Taekwondo Federation (MTF) in 1995, he was entrusted with the opening of the first club by then president and head instructor Master Christopher Vella.

During his career he was one of the first athletes to represent the MTF in the Senior European Championship and also in the Games of the Small States of Europe (GSSE). Since then he held several distinctive positions within the MTF Executive Committee where he headed the MTF for four years. In 2006 Stephen Formosa was the first person to attend a solidarity-coaching course founded by the World Taekwondo and Kyung Hee University in South Korea, who again attended in 2014.

He also holds a Kukkiwon 3rd Class Master Certificate and in 2017 he successfully completed a five-year degree course in Sports and Active Lifestyles at the University of Malta. In December 2017, he achieved the level of 6thDan in Taekwondo, putting him at the apex amongst all Taekwondo instructors on the Maltese islands.
