Growth and pride seen at the 10th Tirana Open E1 last Saturday 6th May.
Dragon Athletes Nathan Degiorgio and Luke Chircop headed to Albania to fight in their respective categories (-160cm and -168cm) in an European Ranked 1 (E1) competition.
The day saw positive growth since their last commitment in Lommel, Belgium, another ranked competition (G2), as our athletes found success by shooting themselves into the finals.
Nathan Degiorgio outperformed his Albanian opponent Ditjon Gjikaj (fight 201) with rounds score of 2-0, winning by point gaps. He continued his winning stride with a semi-final win against Greek Michail Sotiropoulos (fight 206).
In the final, Nathan faced another Greek opponent, (national Champion) Stefanos Loukaris, (fight 213) which after a hard fought fight, lost 2-0 earning him a well-deserved Silver.
The morning saw also athlete Luke Chircop also winning 2-0 against Montenegran Novac Adzic (fight 303).
In the final, Luke met a second athlete from Montenegro, Marko Vukcevic (fight 312), though despite his efforts and will to not give up till the final bell, Luke lost 2-0. Earning Luke also a well-deserved Silver Medal.
Praise goes also to athletes Michela Scerri and Alycia Cassar from ITL for their outstanding performance that earned them a Gold medal each. Well done!
Lessons were learnt. Our young cadets are growing in the right direction, gaining confidence and experience with every fight. On to the next!
