The Dragon Martial Arts Taekwondo team has once again embarked on their yearly Summer training camp in the picturesque setting of Mazara Del Vallo, Sicily. For almost a decade, this training camp has been a staple in the team’s calendar, offering a unique opportunity for the Maltese athletes to hone their skills and bond with their Sicilian counterparts.
The week-long training camp kicks off with rigorous morning physical sessions, followed by evening sparring and strategic sessions in collaboration with the local Sicilian taekwondo club, ‘Taekwondo 2000’ of ‘Happy Gym’ under the superb guidance of Coach Vincenzo Giametta and amazing host Coach Vito Marino. This partnership allows for the exchange of knowledge on the latest trends in taekwondo and fosters a sense of camaraderie between the athletes.
Beyond the training sessions, the athletes are treated to a memorable experience that combines hard work with relaxation. Downtime is spent unwinding in the swimming pool and the sea’s crystal-clear waters, providing a perfect balance between training and leisure.
One of the camp’s highlights is the exhibition matches held in the city’s plaza at the end of the training period. Joining forces with three other local Sicilian clubs, the athletes showcase their skills using the electronic scoring system, creating a great atmosphere for both participants and spectators.
The Dragon team eagerly anticipates this annual trip to Sicily, not only to sharpen their skills and stay updated on the latest in taekwondo but also to reconnect with friends made over the years. This training camp is about improvement and creating lasting memories and having fun, making it a truly enriching experience for all involved.
