June was an intensive month for Dragon Academy Malta, with both its Taekwondo and Hapkimudo disciplines holding their respective ranking examinations.
On the 1st of June, DAM held its Taekwondo Kup examinations with 20 students successfully passing their respective test and moving on to the next belt. Whilst we congratulate each of these twenty students for doing the necessary work and checking all the boxes to receive their next belt with merit, we must also encourage those who’ve yet to advance to their next belt. The road to 1st Dan/Poom (Black belt) is not, and should not, be a race with one another, but a series of short steps which are to be climbed at one’s own pace and with one’s own merit. That is the only way with which receiving your Black Belt will feel like an achievement, and not like a gift.

Only two days after, on the 3rd of June, DAM held its Hapkimudo gradings for the second time this year, which saw five candidates successfully passing their respective belts. Despite having fewer practitioners, the Korean art continues to thrive in energy and uniqueness in mixing various styles of martial arts into one practical combat art.
