Dragon Academy Malta (DAM) participated in the 1st International Trinacria Open that was held between 13-14 October 2018 in Barcellona Pozzo di Gotto, Sicily. This event had more than 43 participating clubs hailing from all over Sicily and southern Italy, amongst which DAM placed 18th overall with 3 gold, 1 silver and 1 bronze medals.
The team was composed of 6 athletes covering all categories that of Pewees, Cadets, Juniors and Seniors.
Power siblings Asma, Salem and Aisha Kerfah all earned a well-deserved place on the podium with Asma grabbing gold after beating three opponents. Salem placed third in his category after losing his second well fought bout by a marginal difference, whilst the youngest of all, Aisha, placed second.
Kylie Magro, the current national Junior champion, won her category after beating both her opponents with a substantial margin. Her sister Shania, who was out of competition for almost a year, did a spectacular come back by significantly overpowering a quoted athlete forming part of team Sicilia, securing first place on the podium.
Current national Junior champion Jerome Vassallo faced a superior opponent in his first bout, missing the opportunity to make his way on the podium after a well-fought match.
